Dr. Paul Saladino is a physician and board-certified nutrition specialist. He’s a leading expert in the science and practice of the carnivore diet, a food regimen to which Saladino credits numerous health benefits seen in the patients under his care.

Don’t follow any fad or extreme diets. Everyones nutritional requirements are different. Take a genetic nutrition test, like genopalate, to find out what YOUR body needs. Once you have that information, go with whole foods and cut out the processed garbage. (I have no stake in genopalate).

Diet is key to a healthy life, and finding what works for you can be a journey. That being said, if humans hadn't consumed meat, would our species have had enough protein to develop our current brain capacity?

I went carnivore in July - only meat, some herbs and spices, and drinking only water. I suffered terrible IBS-C, which later resulted in persistent painful bloating, depression, and anxiety. Only 3 months in sticking to it fully and all my pain has gone, I'm no longer bloated all the time, and I'm happy. 😊I was eating a diet before of fruit, veg and a small amount of meat. This all really made me rethink nutrition!🥩

Interesting, BUT this guy is a PSYCHIATRIST! He may have studied some nutrition too. Perhaps the goal of life should be discussed (e.g. that life isn't just about how long you live). BUT, when people talk about dietary health they are usually talking about longevity. NONE OF THE REGIONS known for their longevity have this type of diet (e.g. Sardina, certain parts of Italy, Japan, certain parts of asia, etc). Nothing wrong with asking questions and challenging established thinking, but you'd be stupid to be this guy's guinea pig. When his fad diet is peer reviewed, produces lots of 80 year olds, etc., then maybe it'll be worth a look.

He's way off on apple seeds.. The cyanide released is nullified during digestion by an enzyme called Rhodanese that healthy cells in our body have and converts it to useful things like thiocyanate that regulates blood pressure. He brings up the Hunza but leaves out that their main diet consists of apricot seeds, yet they were extremely healthy and long living (before their diet became more westernized). Doesn't mean he doesn't know his stuff about cholesterol but it's hard to take him seriously when he talks about things that he's ignorant of and shouldn't be given the amount of time he devotes to nutrition. Stinks of him having a hard bias.

You can get many beneficial nutrients from eating small amounts of these veggies (daily intake) and have ZERO negative effects because the dose you need to experience those side effects far supersedes what any normal human could consume. Imagine if we lived in a world where people were reasonable, instead of extremists. Saying you shouldn't eat vegetables because of their natural plant defense systems (also, this guys stretches the definition of "Defense" way beyond its accepted use) is like saying you shouldn't drink water because of Hyponatremia.

IF CHOLESTEROL WERE OIL So my car was a bit down on power so I took it to a mechanic that advised a get a boroscope to check the cylinder linings for damage or wear. Sure enough the cylinder linings were worn, the mechanic diagnosed “too much oil”. I queried this and he said “yes, oil is very often present at the scene of excessive wear”. He recommended an oil additive that would make the oil so thick, it would put a strain on the oil pump and reduce the amount of circulating oil. I asked if the wasn’t some risk in doing this, he said that some people had complained that this approach effected other ancillaries, like the steering pump and so on but this was more likely because the cars were just old. I asked wasn’t the wear more likely to caused by friction, he noted that evidence of friction was often found in the same places that oil was delivered. I then noted that I had been having trouble with dirty fuel for many years and that perhaps this had contaminated the oil (eg via crankcase ventilation) and that had caused the excessive wear. In fact when I found the fuel had been contaminated I had the oil checked and it was full of dirty particles, but since using cleaner fuel, further tests showed I no longer had dirty particles in the oil. He explained that I had to understand that it was not the cleanliness of the oil that was important - it was having too much oil. You see, the oil capacity of all cars is known, and the average capacity of all cars is considered a cut off point for proper total oil capacity for any car. But not to worry if the additive did not reduce the circulating oil, he’d recommend adding sand as well as that was shown to soak up oil on roads and therefore was another promising treatment for too much oil. I asked if this approach achieved good results. He said "oh yes, people bring their cars back to me right up until they stop working altogether".

No shit you're gonna lose weight, not because you're only eating meat, because only eating meat cuts out a bunch of processed crap. I eat plenty of meat an vegetables and also have no trouble losing weight. It's because I eat very little grain, no milk, just mainly meat, fruit and vegetables. But how if I'm eating vegetables? Don't forget there are quite a number of ppl who switch for other reasons: those who are diabetic and want to put it into remission (they often go low carb, Keto, or Carnivore), or those with autoimmune issues who find their symptoms subside or disappear after going carnivore. There are ppl who go carnivore for a combination of reasons, it's not always just to fix weight gain.

Glad to see Saladino getting airtime on Rogan. Nothing helped stop my progressive autoimmune disease until I removed almost all plants from my diet. The disease affected my gut among other things and the plant fibres and natural defence chemicals (that plants use to try to defend against being eaten by herbivores and insects) were doing a number on my immune system. I had a plant heavy diet for most of my life and all it gave me was constant IBS and then almost 10 years ago I developed a progressive autoimmune disease. I am so grateful for Saladino and others in this space. https://meatrx.com/category/success-stories/autoimmune-issues/

Prieš 2 dienas
Mik Limecat
Mik Limecat

@Shamus Obi I understand your reservations. It would be great if we could all eat cleanly. I don't eat steak everyday either (I get a striploin maybe 1-2 days a month). Most days it's cheap ground beef and whatever's on sale. Nothing grass-fed at the moment as it's just not available. There are definitely differences between grass-fed vs grain-fed, but based on what other carnivore doctors and PhD experts say, we CAN still get health benefits even with regular meats. See if it'll help you if you search the Internet for "cheap carnivore", "carnivore on a budget", "frugal carnivore" etc. I've found real practical advice from KenDBerryMD, another carnivore doc, maybe take a look at his video "Carnivore on a budget" https://youtu.be/EGnfoD35m6c .As for saturated fats, there's no need to fear them anymore. It turns out the negative things associated with them were based on weak science. Any of Nina Teicholz (investigative journalist) presentations here on youtube would be good place to start, or hef book "The Big Fat Surprise". Hope this helps.

Prieš dieną
Shamus Obi
Shamus Obi

@Mik Limecat Not really because he said that corn fed cattle get fed corn and other junk so their fat cells and organs would fill with toxins and pesticides. Organic grass fed seems to be the way to go to avoid the toxins. As far as marbling I guess feeding it milkfat or eggs or other high sat fat would increase the sat fat content in cells.

Prieš dieną
Mik Limecat
Mik Limecat

Perhaps consider if it's still worth it for you to get just ordinary meats and animal products. It may not be perfectly "clean" carnivore, but you will still get benefits. It's the same argument as when you can't afford organic everything so you buy the regular veggies. The point is that we move away from processed foods and buy the best real whole foods we can afford. As for not being able to cook it yourself, I think one needs to be cautious because most restaurant food is cooked with vegetable/ seed oils. That's going to be inflammatory and may contribute to stalling weight loss (if weight loss is a concern). I think the most important thing is to get the best nutrition we can (whatever our individual circumstances are) and move away from the crappy highly processed foods. Just improve whatever you can and minimize damage from bad foods.

@allen martinez I can't stress enough to look into the LDL question. Cholesterol is in every cell in our body with 20% of all our cholesterol being in the brain. Big Pharma wants you to believe cholesterol is the fire when in reality I believe it's the fireman. Resolve the underlying conditions that promote higher LDL cholesterol such as inflammation. The inflammation is the fire, not the LDL cholesterol.

@Johnny Penso man thanks so much for that information. I'll definitely have to look up most of it. My last bloodwork did show a slight above avg in LDL cholesterol but I have been excercising more and eating leaner. Thank you for your reply man!

Prieš 6 val
Johnny Penso
Johnny Penso

@allen martinez All depends on your diet. High cholesterol is primarily driven by a diet high in processed carbohydrates and seed oils but different people have different responses to different diets. There are no blanket rules. I do know that in RCT's around the keto diet, they've been proven to lower HBA1C, NAFLD and to decrease triglycerides and raise HDL cholesterol. The HDL/Trig ratio is the best marker for predicting heart issues of the generally available markers. 1:1 or better is ideal and most people on a typical North American diet hover around the .5/1 or worse. If you are planning on making a major dietary change I'd suggest getting a full blood workup first to compare to. I'd also suggest listening to various people on that LDL cholesterol means in the context of a healthy keto or animal based diet. Dr. Paul Saladino has had various experts on his podcast and it's a good place to start. Dr. Paul Mason has some YT lectures that are informative as well.
