1:03:00 The people who were sheltering were often the same people who were out rioting and protesting in the streets. The people working were busy working and and staying masked, washing their hands and practicing social distancing, and generally didn't have time to go do a bunch of foolishness. So of course the people who worked stayed healthier.

He keeps asking if this model would be enough to feed the nation. Something to keep in mind is that if you eat properly you don't need to eat as much. With all of the junk we eat our bodies aren't being fed properly at the cell level and that is why we are always hungry and eat way to much. Feed your cells and you don't need as much. So if Americans would just eat properly then this model would easily feed the nation. As far as cost goes, if your not eating as much then obviously you're not spending as much so its either a wash, or cheaper. Long term it's cheaper in terms of medical costs.

Mr Salatin has a very good point about the scaling and the nonsensical regulations but he is having some difficulty explaining it to Joe and Joe does not understand it,..He is making a very good point about how big Government and regulations are simply a monster unto itself and has very little to do with the practicalities of the requirements. But more importantly, BIG business will never allow consumers and the everyday citizen to have such control and food-access-freedom. They will lobby the hell out of this concept - and use fear advertising to scare everyone into subjection.

I am watching this over again and making notes. Started my change of heart all the way back with Garden of Eden and down the Youtube rabbit hole I went all the way through Justin Rhodes and ultimately Joel Salatin, where the idea really stuck, because of the technical data en experience and openness of these guys, who are willing to teach and help us understand what our suburban parents didn't teach us. Thank you for taking the time to raise the next generation better.

I can't tell if Joe is just being contrarian to be contrarian here or what. If we are talking about the footprint of land, for example, it doesn't matter if the pig house owns the acres the corn is grown on too or not. That acreage is devoted to the pigs regardless of who owns it. Is Joe even arguing against the idea of a guy who owns a cow being able to butcher and sell it? That's ridiculous IMO.

Everything is open in Savannah Georgia That I know of! I have worked everyday during this pandemic thank god! I have had only one close friend get sick and end up in hospital he is healthy and back at work! But I have watched over 1000 contractors that worked with me in aviation get laid off and the industry struggle and loose there biggest clients due to the shut down Because of how dramatically it affected the aviation industry! This has caused me to want to start a garden in my yard and to eat non processed better foods! It’s difficult when u want a fast meal and ur lazy or not willing to change but if u plan ur meals buy good products and have some self control you can make that change no problem!

I really like the idea of having thousands of community based meat/plant facilities rather than getting stuff from 10-20 HUGE companies putting out quantity over quality, but all the people making enough money to start their own country would fight tooth and nail to make it not happen. More farms not bigger farms. Too much centralized industrialization of agricultural and not enough localization. Dwell on what Joel said about the fast food hamburger containing parts from 600 animals. The problem with the cost of ethical food isn’t a capitalistic issue it’s a vastness of supply and demand issue.

What a great interview! I enjoyed this thoroughly as I am a big fan of Polyface products and philosophy. I live in the Shenandoah Valley and have enjoyed the benefits of being able to procure food from local vendors. My husband and I were even able to work together with some friends to learn how to process pork during the pandemic. It’s so important to know where your food comes from and prepare it yourself. I am 100% behind the comment that people need to learn how to cook. It’s really not rocket science. This is such an incredibly important topic! Thank you for this interview.

im confused. he say the difference with his farm and a factory farm is that the factory farm looks small but grows hundreds of corn & soy beans that we dont see.. and that his land is open so looks like more land is being used. Fair point, but then later on he says that he buys his corn and soy beans from someone else ? who is obviously occupying more land to grow his feed? So he didnt really answer Joes question just curved it.

I am amazed that theories as such are spoke about like they are an innovative solution for our problems. I mean, my Grandparents did EXACTLY THAT a few decades ago. Every time i listen to suited up politicians talking about ways to be sustainable my jaw drop at human hypocrisy and ignorance. Literally every one knows how to be sustainable. The only problem is that free market and global trade would be shook hard. And politicians, companies and industries do not want people to be more independent. It's bad for business. This is literally the ONLY reason why the western world is entranced with this mechanical and industrial way to produce food.

It's retarded that people think stuffing more animals into a warehouse takes less land than on pasture, sure you pay for the real estate, but you're cutting costs spectacularly by using rain, soil, and water in stead of truck loads of feed grown unsustainably elsewhere just passing on the expenses to one another.... cut that cycle!
